Arts & Eats with Tannery Pond

228 Main St. : 228 Main St., North Creek, NY  12853

NA

NORTH CREEK, NY - Renowned Adirondack singer-songwriter Dan Berggren and his daughter Jenny
will be the featured performers June 7 at a new “Arts and Eats” event at Tannery Pond Center in
North Creek.
Berggren, an Olmstedville native who has produced more than 20 albums of Adirondack-themed
ballads and folk songs, will provide the “Arts” portion of the event. The “Eats” will come from
recipes in the community center’s “Arts and Eats” cookbook.
Berggren in March was inducted into the “Eddies Hall of Fame,” which recognizes top Capital
District musical talent. While the Adirondacks and its people star in most of his songs, Berggren has
entertained audiences from Kentucky to Bulgaria, to Zimbabwe.
He is co-host of the weekly “Folk Club Kids” music classes at Caffe Lena in Saratoga Springs and is
the owner of Sleeping Giant Records. Daughter Jenny Berggren, who will accompany him on flute, is
a music teacher in Connecticut.
The Arts and Eats event kicks off at 3 pm, with appetizers and beverages served to guests before
they head into the first half of the concert at 4 pm. During an intermission, desserts from the
recipe book will be served.
The Arts & Eats cookbook features over 300 recipes in such categories as Fresh from the Farmer's
Market, On the Wild Side, and Mountain Men. The Just from Johnsburg chapter features recipes
from cooks and chefs in the Town of Johnsburg's seven hamlets. This beautiful, hardcover book
includes artwork by some of the many artists who have exhibited in the Widlund Gallery at Tannery
Pond Community Center, as well as historical information about the center and those who run it.
At this event, prints of Peter Hornbeck’s painting Breaking for Lunch, found on the cover of the
cookbook, will be for sale. Also, copies of the cookbook will be on sale for $20.
Berggren and the community center share a special history. In 2007, he wrote and first performed
“Tannery Pond Reel,” inspired by the center’s location near the historic pond used by tanners and
woodsmen as North Creek developed into an important early Adirondack settlement.
Admission to “Arts and Eats” is free, although a $10 donation is suggested. Reservations, by calling
518-251-2505, are recommended to ensure availability of seating.
Tannery Pond Center, which is dedicated to bringing the best performances, art exhibits and
community events to the Gore Mountain Region, is on the corner of Route 28N and Main Street,
North Creek. For further information, call 518-251-2505, visit: tannerypond.org, email:
