A childrens opera by composer Kamala Sankaram and librettist David Johnston, originally commissioned by Houston Grand Opera To Go in partnership with American Lyric Theatre. Performers: Hayley Glenn, soprano as Francine, Owen Connolly, tenor as Monkey, Madeline Darigan, mezzo-soprano as Monkey Queen/Lord Tiger, Charles Sanderson, baritone as Monkey King/Crocodile/Lady Tiger.
"Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers" is an opera for youth audiences that follows Monkey and his brainy sister Francine as they learn to work together, fusing folktales from India, China, and West Africa, and outsmart a hungry crocodile and a greedy Lord of the Tigers.
