The global era has delivered the world of wine to our doorsteps. We wish to participate, but the staggering diversity of variety, style and price can leave us wide-eyed. Does confronting a Wachau Gruner Veltliner or a Stellenbosch Pilotage make you reach for what’s safe - mass-market wines that lack character or interest? Where’s the fun in that?

The goal for this tasting is to encourage you to explore, and to suggest a few surprisingly simple techniques to boost your confidence. With six wines, we will compare light bodied and full, dry and off dry, and the current release vs. wines with age and development.

We will discuss how to make a fearless selection - to be the person to whom the waiter hands the list - and how to find your shop. We'll talk about wine and food pairing (first rule: don’t worry about it). And we’ll demonstrate how to open, serve and taste. Most importantly, we will discuss how to arrive at the rim of the glass with an open mind.
