This workshop is made possible, in part, by Warren County Occupancy Grant Program, regranted by the Town of Johnsburg and the Adirondack Foundations Generous Acts grant.
Tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts made by soaking the bark, berries, leaves (dried or fresh), roots from one or more plants or mushrooms in alcohol or vinegar. The alcohol or vinegar pulls out the active ingredients in the plant parts, concentrating them as a liquid. Teas are created by adding hot water or simmering ingredients for a period of time to extract the medicinal benefits.
Course Description: In this beginner class, Melanie will teach students the medicinal benefits of each plant, lichen or mushroom. Students will learn about and will learn how to create an effective tincture with a choice of powerful ingredients she has foraged such as:
Chaga
Usnea Lichen
Hemlock Reishi Mushroom
Lionsmane Mushroom
Turkey Tail Mushroom
Japanese Knotweed Plant
Students will also taste, learn the benefits of and create a take home herbal tea blend using a choice of plants with accompanying spices easily found in the Adirondacks:
Mullein Plant
Chaga
Yarrow Plant
Lavender Plant
Dandelion Plant
Burdock plant
Goldenrod plant
This class will help students create a knowledge of and long lasting link with their beautiful Adirondack surroundings whilst becoming healthier and more aware of what nature can do in the process.
