Knox Commemorative Events on Dec. 12! Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance

3:00 PM

Knox Commemorative Events on Dec. 12
The commemoration features three cornerstone events:

3:00 PM – Henry Knox Arrives at Lake George by Boat with Cannon
Location: Lake George Battlefield Park, Beach Road
Visitors will witness a stirring recreation of Knox’s arrival, complete with a fife and drum
tandem, 18th-century soldier re-enactors, and demonstrations of camp life and soldiering skills.
“Knox” and replica artillery will be transported by horse and cart to Fort George, where the
colonel will speak to the crowd about his perilous journey to the south end of Lake George from
Fort Ticonderoga.
4:30 PM – Reception with Historian Rick Atkinson
Location: Holiday Inn Resort, Lake George
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Rick Atkinson, author of the New York Times bestsellers The
British Are Coming and The Fate of the Day — the latter being the second volume in his
American Revolution trilogy — will be featured at a special reception. Attendees will receive a
signed copy of The Fate of the Day with admission, enjoy remarks from Atkinson and local
historians, and engage in conversations on the pivotal role Lake George played in the
Revolution. Ticket purchases for the reception become available September 1. Cost is $50 for early purchase,
$60 after November 12 and at the door. The price for those who wish to attend but not receive
the book is $30. Tickets to attend the Rick Atkinson reception are available exclusively through
this link: https://lake-george-battlefield-park-alliance.square.site

7:00 PM – Free Public Conversation by Rick Atkinson
Location: Lake George High School
Period music played by a Glens Falls Symphony Quintet will kick off the third event of the day,
where the community is invited to a public conversation and Q&A with Rick Atkinson.

The Lake George events are part of a larger regional tribute, with additional commemorations
taking place on December 13–14 in Fort Edward, Fort Miller, Schuylerville, Cohoes, and
Albany. These programs are being coordinated by the counties of Warren, Washington, Saratoga,
and Albany to highlight Knox’s remarkable achievement and the region’s central role in
America’s fight for independence.
