The Washington County 250th Committee will host Evacuation Day 2026 on Saturday, March 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rogers Island Visitors Center, 11 Rogers Island Drive, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
The event commemorates the remarkable journey of the Knox Noble Train of Artillery, which transported artillery from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston in the winter of 17751776. This event is three days before the 250th anniversary of Henry Knoxs success in forcing the British evacuation of Boston (March 17, 1776) giving the Americans their first major victory of the American Revolution.
The three-part program is as follows with a short question and answer session and light refreshments in between presentations:
1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. - Patrick Niles, co-chair of the Washington County 250th Committee, will present Knoxs Heavy Metal Tour: Fort Ticonderoga to Albany, exploring the logistical challenges and local impact of transporting artillery to Albany.
2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. - 2nd Continental Artillery will demonstrate and explain 18th-century artillery procedures, offering attendees a firsthand look at Revolutionary War military practices.
3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - Stuart Lilie, Vice President of Public History at Fort Ticonderoga, will present Henry Knoxs Noble Artillery Train from Albany to Boston, detailing the expeditions final leg and its pivotal role in driving the British from Boston.
The program is free to the public with donations gladly accepted
