The day will begin with a morning classroom discussion where well cover camera setup options plus details and questions about the basic photography principlesexposure, motion, depth of field. Carl will also discuss photo composition and equipment and lens options to help folks more easily explore various shooting angles when on location.
During the afternoon we will experiment with the covered techniques along with different ways of looking at subjects while going to various exhibits around the museum grounds. Well also walk the trail to scenic Minnow Pond as long as the weather cooperates.
Participants should bring along a camera, tripod, a variety of lenses and focal lengths from wide angle to telephoto, close-up (macro) equipment they might have, and perhaps a solid ND filter. There are no specific requirements, but a larger range of equipment choices will offer a greater variety of creative shooting options. (For example, in his standard camera bag, Carl carries 2 DSLR mirrorless camera bodies, a 14-24, 24-120, 70-300 zooms, a 16mm fisheye lens for unique shooting angles, extension tubes for close-up options, and a variable solid ND filter.)
Carl Heilman is an internationally published photographer and author who has been photographing the Adirondacks since 1975. He started climbing the High Peaks on a pair of handcrafted snowshoes in the 1970s and continues to explore and photograph the mountains and lakes, while pursuing his passion for portraying the unique beauty of the Adirondack Park and sharing his decades of photography experience with others in his photography workshops and tours, coffee table books, and how-to photography books.
