Frances Ulric Naughton Herman: Let's Do This

4924 Lake Shore Drive\r\n Box 441 : 4924 Lake Shore Drive, Bolton Landing, NY  12814

10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Frances Ulric Naughton Herman: Let’s Do This

In a life of many passions, from medical aid to French language tutor, and artistically largely self-taught, Frances made an intensive exploration of the Adirondacks, Bolton Landing and the Lake George area in particular, creating some 200 oil and watercolor paintings: each one a portrait. While her only actual portrait—the Self Portrait (1991) —she approached her work as a portrait painter, capturing the physical likeness of a place, a time, or a gathering of objects. Whether a table-top still life, a garden, a mountain range, or a wilderness pond, descriptive titles and notations written on the backs of her artworks reveal her desire to call them by their names.

A collection of Frances’ artwork will be on display in the north transept at The Bolton Museum every day from May 23 to October 13, 2026 from 10 am to 4pm. A booklet of the exhibit will be available.
