SUNY Adirondack Opens New Sports Facility

about the project

The $5.7M multi-use turf facility has been completed at the SUNY Adirondack Campus, which includes dugouts, bleachers, a press box and a scoreboard. This project was supported by SUNY Adirondack Foundation; New York State; Adirondack Housing Association, which owns and operates the college’s Residence Hall; Faculty Student Association; and through donations. The upgraded soccer/baseball/lacrosse turf field was scheduled break ground in 2020, but was backed up due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new field is ready for use by softball, baseball, soccer and lacrosse – creating a new opportunity in Warren county for visiting and regional sports teams and tournaments.

The Lake George Area is a prime destination for sports events and tournaments not only  because of the facilities and venues but because of all that our region offers for teams to do off the field after the game.

The field will be available for "off season" rental starting Labor Day 2023. Contact Nick Kelly, Sports Coordinator at the Lake George Regional Covention and Visitors Bureau for venue information, booking details, and overnight rooms.

Economic Impact

"When a tournament or sports event comes to Warren County the players, coaches, spectators — everyone who visits with that event – eats at our restaurants", says Amande Metzger, Marketing Director at the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce and CVB. "They fill up their vehicles at our gas stations. If it’s an overnight event, they stay at our hotels. They enjoy our attractions after the game. They shop at our stores".

Investments like this multi-sport turf field sustain jobs across our entire region in many different sectors

In Warren County, there are more than 7,000 tourism-related jobs.Tourism from sports events is a piece of that picture.

Metzger adds,"This project isn’t only about resurfacing the turf to accommodate baseball, soccer, lacrosse and softball. It’s not just about new dugouts, bleachers, a press box and soon, a new scoreboard. It’s not just about the competition on the field. This investment makes our region more competitive. It opens up new and more opportunities for us to bring sports teams and groups to the region."
