The Surfside Resort in Lake George Village has installed a rooftop, solar power system, 417 panels large.
According to the Planning and Zoning Director for Lake George, it is the biggest commercial PV (photovoltaic) solar project in the Lake George area.
Resort owner Salim Amersi invested close to $500,000 on the installation. Incentive rebates from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, tax benefits from federal tax and amortization credits make solar installation a good, viable investment, and incentives in the federal Inflation Reduction Act have been instrumental.
About 20-25% of the hotel's electrical use will be produced through the solar project. Amersi said his investment will clear the path for other properties to do the same.
In 2015, Amersi put $10 million into renovations.
"The next step is to install two electric vehicle charging stations in coming months. As well, Surfside can may invest in battery storage, making the resort more independent from the power grid, which is beneficial in a currently volatile energy market, Amersi said in Foothills Business Daily.
Surfside is an independent, family owned lakeside hotel that takes pride in a well-maintained property with 154 rooms and 41 Suites, some with two bedrooms.
Many rooms have a view of Lake George or are lake front with private balconies. Surfside has a private 233′ sandy beach with BBQ grills and children’s playground, an outdoor heated pool (in season), a 1,200 sq ft boardwalk deck, and a 2,500 sq ft 2-level relaxation deck all with breathtaking panoramic views of Lake George. These spaces are all furnished with Adirondack chairs, chaise lounges, picnic tables, and benches.
